Nursery children enjoying a delicious school lunch |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Twenty
four of our Nursery children enjoyed a delicious school lunch in the
hall on Wednesday! Mrs Harrison our school cook said " It went really well. They could choose casserole or pizza and everyone ate a good lunch. They were brilliant. " Afterwards they went to play in Nursery Plus and parents collected them from the building where we run After School Club. |

Winners' line up
With some record breaking times here are the winning boys and girls in Y3-6.
Yr 2 had a fun race watched by their parents and friends of the school. In bright sunshine but with a cool air we had perfect conditions for cross country racing. Mrs Richardson encouraged all the children to 'have a go' and Mrs Andrews thanked staff and parents for their support in engaging children in healthy activity.

All returned safely on Wednesday
Yr 4 visit to Pentrellyncymer (Tuesday afternoon report from Mrs West)
Children are having a fantastic adventure! Mrs West enjoyed canoeing alongside her group today. Lunchtime came late... since everyone was busy enjoying themselves. They had made the sandwiches earlier themselves - egg, tuna, ham, jam, cheese and marmite. Something to suit all tastes and eaten al fresco. A great picnic and nearly all of Mrs Dutton's chocolate cakes have disappeared.
No problems reported, minor home sickness cured by the next activity and a reminder that they will all be coming home tomorrow. All the children send love to their families. From Mrs Andrews
All absolutely fine. Weather excellent - not too hot or cold. Yesterday - in the forest, camp fires and dens; brilliant fun.
Dinner last night - Fish and chips, peas and bread followed by cake.
Hot chocolate in the evening. Bed by 9.30 settled by 10.30.
Breakfast to day - Cereal followed by bacon, hash browns, sausage, beans and toast. Self-service so there were beans everywhere.
Canoeing today - lovely day, weather good.
Monday (from Mrs Andrews)
All wonderful at Pentrellyncymer! They have had a fabulous day, everyone relaxed, smiling, enjoyed a hearty tea. Mrs West reports that everything is fine and they are just setting out for an evening walk in the sunshine.
Tom, one of the instructors, told me what a good group Yr4 are - climbing, canoeing and wood craft this afternoon. Well done everyone. More tomorrow
J E Randles, Retired Head Teacher visited Barker's Lane and shared memories with Yr6 of his time as goal keeper playing for Wrexham School boys in 1931. He also told the children about playing Rugby and Football for Grove Park Grammar School and still has his red prefect's hat. Facinating stories were shared looking at copies of the Wrexhamian from 1937. Mr Randles who is in his ninetieth year is a Gresford boy and often visits Barker's Lane where his daughter is Head Teacher.

Mrs Jarvis took the minutes in the teacher meeting which was attended by 26 teachers from 9 European countries. We planned work for our pupils which we will all share during the final visit in Barker's Lane in May 2010.
We presented the Romanian
class 3C with a Welsh outfit, flag, Welsh book, picture of Reception in
their Welsh outfits and some fudge. They were delighted with all the gifts.
They gave Mrs Stapley and Mrs Jarvis, fresh flowers and Spring broaches.
These broaches are worn by all Romanian women on 1st March and they have
white and red tassels which signify saying goodbye to the white cold winter
and welcoming new life with red.

We spent an enjoyable hour or so with the class but would have loved to stay longer. They asked us questions about Wales in English, sang us Romanian songs and sang the Welsh weather song. Mrs Stapley and Mrs Jarvis sang Welsh songs, read a Welsh story, Lliwiau hapus and the storysack version of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Then we shared the fudge something they had never tasted before but they enjoyed it!

The teachers take a break from work and built a snowman. We had lots of fun in Romania with all our European colleagues.

Saint David's Day (Welsh: Dydd Gw^yl Dewi Sant) is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1 March each year. The date of 1 March was chosen in remembrance of the death of Saint David on that day in 589, and has been celebrated by followers since then. The date was declared a national day of celebration within Wales in the 18th century.
