Mrs Nova Evans retires as nursery teacher but it is "Not quite the last chord!"

We are really pleased say that Mrs Evans will be back to teach music

We sprang a surprise on Mrs Nova Evans during normal hymn practice.

Guests included Trevor and Yvonne Willams and Mrs Magee (former Deputy head)

Staff and parents presented Mrs Evans with garden vouchers,
a plant for her garden and a special bookmark in the form of a Barker's Lane Owl.

Children's Commissioner for Wales visits Barker's Lane

Keith Towler presented Bethan and Sam with their Ambassador's Certificates. They have been working all year on projects to share information about human rights of children round the world, but particularly for the children of Wales.

After Keith talked to Yr 6 pupils the whole group enjoyed some fun games and on a hot day delicious ice cream. Keith asked 'What is the best about your school' and the children replied, 'Our teachers and we've got special ground.'

Early Year Educational Visit - Talacre

The theme of the summer term has been The Sea. We have read 'The Llighthouse Keepers Lunch', Katie Morag books and non fiction books about the sea, boats and lighthouses. There has been a beach role play in class this term and our activities have been based around the sea. The visit was designed to allow the children to experience a day on the beach, a walk around a lighthouse and a picnic with their friends.

Tuesday 16th June 2009
52 children and 11 adults left school at 9.30 a.m. with a big picnic and lots of resources for a day on the beach.

We arrived at 10.30 and quickly made our way through the dunes to the beach in the glorious sunshine where we had our healthy morning snack and drink of water.
Some of the children needed the toilet so we split into two groups. The larger group went for a walk around the lighthouse, the tide was out (tide timetables had been checked previously) making it a perfect excursion, what a shame it needs a good coat of paint!

The smaller group accompanied by three teachers went back into the village for the toilets and to collect our picnic and beach toys from the bus. When the groups arrived back at base we had another swap, toilet, lighthouse walk or a play with the toys.

At about 12.30 we were ready for our picnic lunch which had been prepared earlier by the teachers. Everyone enjoyed a sandwich (ham, cheese or jam) crisps and a cake together with refills of water.

After lunch the serious business of play, stunt kites, parachute, scarves, buckets, spades, balls, quoits and of course just digging in the sand with our hands and collecting shells.
Sadly we had to leave at 1.15 and wave goodbye to Talacre beach. The last surprise was a vanilla ice cream cone for everyone which we ate before we got on the bus home.
We arrived back home a little late at about 2.45, very tired still with some sand between our toes.
